Leather Paper - ONXY GREEN

This plant-based Leather Paper is handmade in the Philippines from the inner bark of the Gampi (salago) plant. Gampi is nearly impossible to grow artificially, so almost all Gampi fibers must be harvested from the naturally-growing plants located throughout the Philippines and some parts of Japan. The collected fibers must then undergo an intricate refining process called chiritori, where dust and dirt (chiri) are removed by hand to ensure only the highest quality material. In this brown Gampi Leather paper, the long and supple plant fibers provide outstanding strength and a soft texture to the finished sheet. Each sheet is crumpled and smoothed by hand to create a realistic leather look and feel. One of Gampi’s most distinguishing features is a natural sheen and luster, which makes it an ideal fiber source for animal-free leather paper. Gampi paper also has a strong resiliency to water and is considered by some to be “naturally-sized.”
